Vale Wildlife Rescue

Emma says:

When I worked in Cheltenham I met a woman called Caroline Gould. She approached us about doing the veterinary work for her charity, Vale Wildlife. I treated their casualties until I moved away in 2003 and remain a trustee now. As you can see form the history of the charity Caroline is a very determined and caring person. The charity started as a hobby in her back garden and now treats thousands of casualties a year. Many people in the area know their door is always open and there is someone on hand to help 24 hours a day. From our point of view as vets charities like Vale are invaluable because vets often have nowhere to send casualties to be rehabilitated and released after treatment. Wildlife cannot really be kept at a surgery for lengthy periods because the environment is so unsuitable and very stressful for the animals. There is little point attempting to treat a wild animal without proper follow-up care.

The charity is quite small compared to the large, national charities and, as such, always desperately needs donations to stay afloat. They take in animals form a very wide area and often from other, smaller organisations that are struggling. Visit the website for more information and please consider becoming a member or sending some money. It will be well spent!

Vale Wildlife says:

Each year in Britain an estimated five million wild birds and other animals are injured or disabled in some way. A vast majority of their injuries are caused by people, mostly accidentally, such as road accidents, but some are intentional like poisoning and badger baiting. We at the Vale Wildlife Rescue offer help to thousands of these casualties every year by treating them and where possible release them back in to the wild. We are on call 24 hours a day, every single day of the year.

We are a registered Charitable Trust that was set up in 1984. Our running costs of over £10,000 per month are ever increasing, we are completely dependent upon donations and voluntary assistance.

We have a treatment and rehabilitation centre located in Beckford mid-way between Evesham and Tewkesbury and a visitor centre open to the public located 1 mile north of Evesham at Evesham Country Park.
