o You Want to be a Vet

Am I too late to be a vet?

You probably get these questions all the time, but i have a concern, and was wondering if you could help me? Im 17 (18 in September)and Im currently re-sitting my GCSE exams in Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics as i gained only grade C's on them, and I need higher grades to get onto A-levels. You've probably guessed that I want to be a vet, and i've spent ages researching into it. I have worked on a stable yard for 3 yrs, a farm for a year, the local pets corner for 10 weeks, the guide dogs for the blind association, and now I work at the local vet voluntarily. However Im starting to panic with my age getting on, as I was reading somewhere that the age limit to be a vet was 25. Does this mean the limit to get into study vet medicine, or the limit by which you must finish your degree by? I have worked out that I will get to university by the age of 22.

Don't panic too much, you still have time! I have not heard of an age limit but if one has been introduced I'm sure it would be a deadline for entry, not finishing. With a 5 year course it would preclude lots of people from entry who have done another degree or are mature students. There was a man in my year at Bristol who did not start the course until he was 29. As long as you are dedicated, and it sounds like you are, you should be fine.
